November 2011 Issue of Fashion

I am having a pretty awesome day today. My friend Dan texted me this morning, telling me that I was featured in this months issue of Fashion magazine. Seriously? It is so crazy. I never would have imagined myself in a fashion publication.

In addition to toting this magazine around to my parents and friends this weekend, I will also be glamorously raking leaves, and doing an airport run to pickup my well travelled husband. Oh, the life of the modern fashionista.
  • These are the most perfect riding boots for fall. Have I posted these before?
  • This fabulous print by The Best Part is two in one. By day it's a lovely friendly scene, but when the lights go out, all sorts of unexpected details pop up.
  • If our weather was a little more tolerable during the winter, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Vespa. And this great new mod helmet would be the perfect accessory.
happy weekend!

Sarah Burton continues to push the boundaries over at Alexander McQueen, as showcased at Paris Fashion Week, where she presented the Spring Summer 2012 collection. Typical militaristic McQueen motifs such as helmets, epaulettes, and corsets were contrasted with layers of soft ruffles and lace, bringing a feminine freshness to the brand. Hues of cream, coral, and gold dominated the palette, with touches of black. Funny, those are the colours I am looking at for my bedroom now. Here are a few of my favourite looks:

I have spoken about my love for Michelle Williams before, and here's more proof why. Michelle is featured on the cover of the October issue of Vogue, where she's photographed in character as Marilyn Monroe, from her latest film, My Week with Marilyn.

Stunning.

You can see the rest of the photo's in the next issue of Vogue.

Photo's by Annie Liebovitz for Vogue.

More than anything, I am a coat fiend. A really fabulous tailored coat is all I love in fashion. So I pulled together a little roundup of a few gorgeous pieces that would look marvellous being modelled by my shoulders.

This week I got a lovely surprise in my inbox: the summer collection from designer Lauren Moffatt is now available. I'm not really a person who gets very excited about spring/summer fashion. Maybe because the season is just so short here. However the lovely patterned silk dresses, and those crisply tailored denim pants have me weak in the knees.

Check out the rest of the collection at Lauren's lovely website.

I miss piksi.

For those of you who don't know, piksi was this beautiful girl from Finland who used to post images of her incredible fashion sense on Flickr. She had a stunning collection of clothes, with lots of vintage pieces that she repurposed, and some signature items from local designers.

I first found out about her after reading an issue of Uppercase Magazine. I almost dropped the magazine to stumble to the computer and devour her entire Flickr stream.

This hat inspired so many knitters that someone created a pattern so you can knit the hat yourself.

Sadly, last year she stopped posting to Flickr and removed all her photo's from her stream. Tear! So now her fans are relegated to google imaging (that's totally a verb) to relive her incredible fashion sense through old blogs. On a happy note, she has started a tumbler called Heartbeats, which features the occasional photo of herself.

You never know when inspiration for a colour scheme will strike. This weekend while watching the Golden Globes I was completely taken with Kyra Sedgwick.

She wore this stunning tangerine dress, and combined it with these chunky gold and turquoise jewellery pieces. It really hit me for a couple of reasons.

1. This colour is striking. It is rare to see a colour like this displayed so boldly, in fashion or otherwise. Plus it is really unusual. I would guess that these orangey tones are some of the least used in the fashion world.

2. The gold and turquoise jewellery is sublime. I'm so happy that Kyra or her stylist forewent the usual diamond product placement that these events are known for. Instead they went for something more unexpected, and the colour combination is perfect.

So how does this translate to an interior? I'm not sure yet, but my wheels are turning.

I love jewellery and accessories, and the bigger the better in my books. Remember this post? But it's better when you can get really interesting pieces for a good price, and there are lots of really cool acrylic and plastic based jewellery that fits the bill perfectly!

A few months ago, I was reading a lot of fashion blogs and discovering a lot of great fashion and shoe lines. This one shoe line in particular really caught my eye with their edgy, and architectural designs, and their affordable price tag was just icing on the cake. But, I didn't save the link in my book marks. For months I have been scouring archives of different blogs looking for the link to this shoe store. No such luck. Then today I was out shopping and decided to stop into a new shoe boutique, and guess what was sitting on their shelves!

So I introduce to you, my favourites shoe brand: United Nude Shoes

Now available in Calgary at NC Shoes.
