I think that I discovered 3rd UNCLE design after reading an issue of Azure magazine last year. I remember being smitten with a residence that the firm worked on, and when I went to investigate them further I was blown away by their portfolio of work.

3rd UNCLE is a multidisciplinary firm out of Toronto, who take an innovative and playful approach to their work. They create memorable spaces for their clients, with a strong focus on brand and market. It comes as no surprise that they have been widely recognized by international media and have been awarded many awards for their design projects.

I think what sets 3rd UNCLE apart is their ability to fully reinforce the brand that their designs are representing, while staying true to their design philosophy. Each interior of theirs has a completely unique look from one to the next, and yet you can see the 3rd UNCLE signature throughout their work.

While the portfolio of 3rd Uncle is incredibly diverse, there are certain details that are maintained. Overall the projects are clean and simple. Their spaces are very linear or rectilinear, and seem to be composed of various planes and surfaces. Materials are used in a way that defines these shapes and accentuates the volume.

I also think that there is a great respect for the materials used. Their designs are honest, and restrained, allowing a material's inherent qualities are brought forth and showcased.
